Our story

After forming in late 2017, The Ramsgates had no idea that only 14 months later they would be releasing their debut album.

In a whirlwind year, they honed their skills with live shows in their hometown of Sydney and penned the 12 songs that make up their first long player, ‘Across The Desert’. Although based in Sydney the band hail from Chile, Canada and the UK and sing in both English and Spanish.

Deserts loom large across the album. ‘Crossing The Nullarbor’ talks of singer Felipe Meyer’s road trip across the South Australian desert. ‘Al Otro Lado Del Desierto’ (On The Other Side Of The Desert) reflects on the fate of Syrian refugees seeking asylum in Chile.

The theme of journeys is strong throughout the album. Current single ‘Qué Hay Más Allá’ (What Lies Beyond) speaks of a metaphysical trip into the unknown, while album opener ‘Meditation Man’ depicts a more inward journey of discovery. ‘Asian Trip’, ‘Hurricane’ and ‘Under The Cliff’ all tell of Felipe’s travels around Asia.

Merging styles and crossing musical boundaries, the album combines rock ’n’ roll, reggae and blues into a unique sound that has been delighting audiences since the band’s first gig.

The band comprises Chilean singer/guitarist/songwriter Felipe Meyer, compatriot Francisco Lira on drums, Englishman Rory Kinsella on bass and Canadian Graham Munro on trumpet. For their live shows the band are joined by various additional horn players and percussionists.

The release follows the band’s debut EP, ‘Asian Trip’, which was out in February 2018 and the first two singles from the album, ‘Woke Up Sick’ in October 2018 and ‘Qué Hay Más Allá’ in January 2019, all of which are pulling in growing numbers on Spotify and other platforms.
